Director, Labor & Legal Affairs

Overview

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce is Ohio's largest and most diverse statewide business advocacy organization, dedicated to presenting Ohio policymakers with the business perspective on issues. The successful candidate will lead the Ohio Chamber’s efforts to advance the organization’s public policy agenda in the areas of labor and human resources policy, specifically by working to protect employers’ rights to manage their workplace with limited governmental involvement and regulation, and also will lead the Ohio Chamber’s efforts to promote and preserve a common-sense civil justice system in the state. This position reports to the Ohio Chamber’s Vice President of Government Affairs and works closely with all members of the government affairs team.

Required: Bachelor’s degree. At least three years progressively responsible experience in lobbying, legislative analysis, policy development, or government affairs. Familiarity with state legislative and regulatory processes. Sound independent judgment and political acumen. Excellent verbal and written communications skills coupled with strong analytical and relationship-building skills. Self-starter who is a team a player but can work independently. Personal commitment to the free enterprise system.

Preferred: Legal experience. Demonstrable record of influencing public policy development. Working knowledge of employment law and Ohio’s workers’ compensation system and awareness of current major policy debates. Ability to explain complicated subject matter clearly, concisely, and in a compelling manner. Relationships with policymakers of both parties.
